Can you imagine a soldier without a helmet?

Can you imaging seeing a soldier without a helmet? I think you would be shocked. You would probably be thinking, you idiot! Do you want to die! I can tell you, if I ever found out my husband was riding a motorbike without a helmet I would have some pretty strong words to say to him!

Yet we don’t seem to be worried about people who are effectively running around a battle field without a helmet.

If people are not Christians, if they do not know the reality of Christ’s salvation, they are in even greater danger than a soldier who goes to battle on the front line without a helmet. They are as good as dead.

That should worry us.

If we do not accepted Christ, and put on the helmet of his salvation, then we are as good as dead.

This is serious stuff.

Christ saved you. He took on the all the bad things you had done, went to the cross and died, so that you don’t have to. All you have to do is accept it, accept it put on the helmet of salvation.

It seems like a pretty simple exchange doesn’t it. But it’s one that will save our lives.

Who cares if none of the other soldiers aren’t wearing their helmets. Who cares if they laugh at you and say “only losers wear helmets.” or “you’ll probably be fine.”

Put it on, because without it, you are as good as dead.

Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. “Ephesians 6:13-17

  1. Christians are sometimes mocked for being too fervent about their message, but we know there can be no such thing as too much passion when it comes to introducing people to Christ. We know we must pray and ask the Holy Spirit to open our mouths in love and to give us courage to speak always. This is a battlefield, and the noise is deafening, spreading confusion, selfishness and fear. We must bring the Gospel of peace wherever we go.

  2. Very true! What I love about the armor of God is that there are so many great studies on it. But truly we are sunk if we don’t have the helmet of salvation. Great reminder to pray for our loved ones to find theirs.

  3. Love the metaphor. Who cares if no one else is wearing a helmet but you? I am covered by His grace, love and protection. I have always let them laugh at me because in the end, those laughing can’t save me.

  4. This is so true. What a great analogy! If we go about life without Jesus we’re living very dangerously, we’re fighting without armor or a helmet. This isn’t necessary! As you said, we should put on the full armor of God!
