What Shoes Does God Want You to Wear?

Choosing the right footwear is important. Something I recently learnt the hard way! After years of wearing cheap ballerina flats and flip flops, I developed a painful condition called Plantar Fasciitis. This left me in agony anytime I put weight on my feet. It may sound like a good excuse be sit around being lazy. But it wasn’t. It hurt!

The next item armour we are commanded to put on are sandles of the readiness of the gospel of peace.

That sounds like a strange thing to bring into battle. But that is what God commands of us.

When we are faced with opposition the natural thing to do is fight. Or run away and hide. Not peacefully stand firm against the enemy. That’s the last thing we want to do in the face of adversity. And yet, God calls us to bring peace into the situation.

A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger. (Proverbs 15:1)

So often people strive to be strong, and confident and loud. As women we can feel we need to be this way to get noticed among the men. And can be heard to stand firm in peace in this world. But that’s what God wants from us. He has chosen the right footwear for the battle.

Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God (Matt 5:9)

Often it takes more strength and courage to stand in peace than it does to fight back. But how can we do this when there is a battle going on around us not just outside but inside too.

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. (John 14:27)

Through knowing Jesus and knowing his gospel we are able to know peace. To know that we are loved, know that we are forgiven and  know that we are chosen. As I one saw written on a car sticker:

No Jesus, No Peace
Know Jesus, Know Peace

Jesus wants us to experience the peace that can only come from him. Through knowing his peace we are able to bring it with us into all situations, leaving little peaceful footprints wherever we go.

Thank you for reading, please share any thoughts you have about peace.

  1. Thanks for speaking on peace. Philippians 4:6 has helped me with peace over anxious thoughts the past couple of weeks. I have been thinking that I want to study the topic more, so this was perfect!
