Glow like Stained Glass Windows and Sparkle Like Diamonds

I was sat in church, just looking at the windows, when I realised something: Stained glass windows are only beautiful when the light shines through them. When it’s dark outside they look like nothing, but when it’s light they are transformed, they glow, they make the whole room shine.

It’s the same for Christians, it’s the light shining through us that gives us our true beauty. Without it we are just pale reflections of what God intended. A darkened stained glass window. So much less than we were made for.

I realised this again, when I started a group for tween girls, which I felt strongly in my heart that I should call Gems. This name was perfect for two reasons:

1) Gems are precious, and I wanted the girls to realise just how precious they are to God.

2) When gems reflect the light they sparkle, they are even more beautiful than they were before, just like these girls sparkle when they reflect Gods light.

Today lets live like stained glass windows and gems, letting the love of God shine through us, and brightening the lives of everyone we meet.

“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.”

Matt 5:14-16

  1. Hello! I discovered your blog via Devotional Diva. That is a gorgeous name for your tween group! And isn’t a priviloege to be the light of the world? What an awesome responsibility Jesus entrusts us with.

Looking forward to reading more of your content in the future.
