This weeks Testimony is very special to me – It comes from my lovely mum. I hope you are encouraged by this story.
In 1994 Myself and my Husband felt really grown up as we applied for, and received, our first ever credit card. It was a precaution, to be used in emergencies only, as we were travelling to Canada to visit relatives. Well, we survived the trip and paid off the card the next month. All good!
Skip forward 10 years and we still had our emergency credit card, only now it was being used for day to day living. We were still paying it off every month, but somehow over the years it’s use had gone from occasional use to a necessity. We were living a month ahead of ourselves. We weren’t overly worried by this, though, as we were able to clear the balance each month.
Then one weekend we were challenged by a visiting speaker about tithing and living debt free, we talked about it and decided that we should be aiming to do this. Now, we had tithed the whole of our married life, but we knew we had this problem with being ahead of ourselves financially. We worked out that by cutting back a little each month, we should be able to wean ourselves off of the credit card in 12 months.
God had a better idea!
Two days after committing ourselves to this plan, we received a surprise cheque from my in-laws. They had had an insurance pay out, or something like that, and had decided to share it with their children. We had enough, after tithing, to pay our credit card that month, leaving our pay free for us to use for that months expenses.
We were able to cut up our credit card within a week of being challenged by that speaker. How great is our God.
As Malachi 3 v 10 says
Bring all the tithes into the storehouse so there will be enough food in my Temple. If you do,” says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies, “I will open the windows of heaven for you. I will pour out a blessing so great you won’t have enough room to take it in! Try it! Put me to the test!
We tested and God hasn’t ever let us down.
What a great story about trusting in God.
